“Sounds from Home,” an online music series sponsored by Spearfish United Methodist Church, features South Dakota musicians who invite us into their worlds to share music and stories.
This week’s “Sounds from Home” features multi-award winning Oglala Lakota singer/songwriter Wanbli Ceya (“Crying Eagle” in Lakota) a.k.a. JUQ, performing from his home on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Through his style which he bills as “Lakota pop,” incorporating his Lakota language, spoken word poetry, traditional Lakota singing, and through a story he has titled “the Oglala wolf puppy with PTSD,” JUQ brings to life an adventure that has earned him accolades all over Unci Maka (Grandmother Earth). You may enjoy his performance any time after 3:00 p.m. on Friday September 18th by following this link.
We look forward to adding more “Sounds from Home” on our church website. Remember that you may continue to enjoy performances from previous weeks.
